A special inorganically treated grade is available for the formulation of bright electro conductive coatings which gains its conductivity via coating with an inorganic semi-conductor. The beneficial properties of the Blanc Fine core remain unchanged. As with any other conventional electro conductive system, a certain filling rate has to be reached before a sudden drop in resistivity occurs. The reason for this is the creation of electro conductive network. The first electric pathway reduces the resistivity by some orders of magnitude, whereas additional pathways reduce the resistivity marginal. The behavior of these systems is described in the percolation theory. It is obvious that the point of percolation can be shifted in a broad range of filling rates, if it is possible to form pathways by controlled flocculation long before they are formed just by filling up. Once the change of solvents to thermodynamically unfavorable solvents was successful, the use of an organic additive was beneficial the second time. It goes without saying that Gemme Micron can be combined with any other pigments or extenders without loss of conductivity. As the material is even finer than titanium dioxide, the surface resistivity is increased by the addition of the pigment because the finer particles are “pushed” together and thus form additional pathways.
